In order to be of service, to contribute your special blend of magic to the world, there are often barriers that must be overcome. The rising to these challenges is the invitation of transformation. It calls for an honest look at your gifts and talents and the things that stand in the way of your full expression. This doorway is ripe with these opportunities.
Service is something that seems to be misunderstood, in our society. When people hear the word service, many think of military personnel, police or firefighters. The truth is we all have the capacity and even need, to serve in one way or another. Service can be something that is paid for, or that you do as a volunteer, whether formally or casually.
Service can come in just about as many forms as there are people. It doesn’t have to look a certain way. Basically, it is extending for the benefit or well-being of another, in a way that feels rewarding to you as well.
Many people confuse service with servitude. In order to truly be of service, your service must serve you, as well as those you serve. If you are not getting something out of it, you can quickly come to resent serving. In other words, if you offer to do something for that you really don’t want to do, your heart isn’t going to be in it. You may do it, but you don’t really feel good about it. Conversely, if you offer to help in some way, by doing something you love to do or because it makes you feel really good to help, the quality of what you do completely changes.
Goddess of Now
The Goddess of Now says service is one of the ways you learn about who you really are. She encourages you to pay attention to what you freely offer others, and how you feel when they receive from you. Being a gracious receiver is an integral part of the cycle of service. It is a good practice to be open not only to serving others but willing to accept their service to you, as well.
The Goddess says being of service to one another, and taking turns being on the offering and receiving end, allows you to expand your sense of self in ways that are not otherwise available. Your meaningful interactions with others often occur during an act of service. Even a kind word to a stranger can instantly change the energy of their day and yours.
