Day 7: Get Solid On Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is often misunderstood. It’s not that feel-good sensation when someone compliments you. It’s not the pleasure you feel when you accomplish your goals. Self-esteem is direct knowing of your intrinsic value. There’s nothing you have to do to get it.

The dictionary defines self-esteem as confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self-respect. It is the feeling of satisfaction you have in yourself and your abilities.

Self-esteem is the value you place on yourself. If you have healthy self-esteem, you likely grew up in an environment in which your good qualities were reflected back to you, and you were met with appreciation. Most people do not have perfect childhoods. Most get a few bumps and bruises along the way. That doesn’t make you worth any less, even though you may have felt worthless, in the moment. Even if you weren’t valued at home you may have had others in your life who truly loved you and helped you cultivate good self-esteem.

Healthy self-esteem expresses in a natural confidence. It means you are aligned with your innate gifts and unique qualities. As you value yourself, your happiness, and well-being, you become more attuned to that which has value for you, in the world. Once you start to pay attention to the things that make your heart sing, you will discover even more ways to share your gifts.

The Goddess of Now Speaks Self-Love

The Goddess of Now talks about self-esteem in terms of self-love. Without self-love, the rest of the essential pieces of your personal Goddess puzzle never really fit. Generations of women were taught not to think too highly of themselves. They were told that thinking less of yourself was somehow virtuous. Some of these women were our mothers and grandmothers. They could only pass on what they knew, so a lot of us carry their false humility until we are finally able to see through it, to the truth.

The Goddess says loving and respecting yourself is vital to positively embody your feminine qualities. Without self-love and self-respect, your energetic signals aren’t clear.

~ Compassion degrades into co-dependence
~ Receptivity turns into neediness
~ Open-hearted caring becomes over-giving of ourselves and our resources
~ Inclusiveness becomes a lack of healthy boundaries

Self-love facilitates your ability to respond to ALL in ways that are appropriate, energizing and life-enhancing, for yourself and others.

Self-esteem and self-love are a big deal for all of us. They are a fundamental piece of awakening to more of who you really are. As more women rise to the occasion and show up with open hearts ablaze, everything in the world starts to change for the better.

Imagine yourself floating on a crystal-blue ocean, on a tropical beach. You can see the palm trees on the shore, the sun is warming up your body as the cool waves move you gently and steadily. Feel the sun move from your head, down your torso and arms, stomach and back, legs and feet. As the sun warms you, you feel greater concentrations of heat in certain areas of your body. These are thought/forms and feelings that no longer serve you. Feel them fizzle up in the sun, as the cooling waves wash across your body. You feel fabulous and free, light and loved.[/thrive_custom_box]

Day 6: Relate and Realign to Money

Money can create a lot of inner conflict for women. Whether it’s getting rid of inherited attitudes and habits, owning your value and charging what you’re worth, or claiming your independence and autonomy, money is intertwined with how you show up in the world. If you don’t have a handle on it, it’s sure to create problems.

One of the most frequent topics clients come in with is money. It doesn’t seem to matter if the person is wealthy or struggling. Money almost always comes up.  If you don’t have a problem with money yet it may not stop you from worrying about it. Where did we get this obsession with cash?

In our modern society, we have learned to value others based on how much money they have, or how much they make. Many people turn their backs on their passions at a young age in order to study a subject that will earn them more money. Eventually, many of them realize that they have sold their soul and all the money in the world won’t buy them peace of mind or happiness.

Money, in and of itself, is neutral. It’s just a piece of paper that we have all agreed has a certain value. The way we relate to money, and the things it affords us, both tangible and intangible, can show us a lot about what we value.

A Deeper Perspective

The Goddess of Now says that money really has very little to do with your value in this world and to those around you. Money is a symbol of value that is been used for a multitude of purposes. When you give it too much weight in your life, it is easy to lose your natural sense of self.

The money game has been going on for a very long time. The important thing for you to understand is that once you separate your own value from your relationship with money, it will be easier to navigate your finances in a conscious and empowering way.

Notice the inflow and outflow of your breath. If you’d like, close your eyes. Feel your feet solid and supported on the ground. Imagine your bare feet planted firmly and solidly so that you feel completely balanced and buoyant. Squeeze your feet into the ground, sinking into the moist earth as the dirt covers your feet and pushes up between your toes. Feel the richness of the soil feeding and filling your body. Allow the abundance of Life to move through every cell nurturing and nourishing every aspect of your being.[/thrive_custom_box]

Day 5: Clarify Your Values

Today we are looking at your relationship to your values. Are you spending your time on the things that are most precious to you? Do you tell yourself you will get to those things later? Are you living true to what matters most to you?

Reflecting upon your values can help you come into greater alignment with who you are, allowing you to make wiser, more graceful decisions. You can tell a lot about your values by looking at what comes first for you.

If you’re having trouble determining your values take a look at where you put your energy. What or who do you show up for, no matter what? Your choices and actions – the things you give your time and energy to most – are proof positive of what you value.

Another method for discovering your hidden values is to track how you spend your time for a day or two. Often, you will default to behavior that overrides even your best intentions because there is another value that was either passed down to you or that you assumed somewhere along the line, that overrides your conscious desires.

Jodi’s Insights

For example, I was taught and had modeled to me, that ‘good women’ made sure others were taken care of before attending to your own needs. The hidden message being that since I am a woman, my needs and desires are less important than others. I watched my mom and grandmothers exhaust themselves trying to please everyone around them at their own expense. Though this is not something I consciously agree with, it took me decades to realize this unconscious value had been running me, and my life. (This is also called co-dependency.)

A Deeper Perspective

The Goddess of Now says that your values are a product of what you believe to be true. Think about what really matters to you Now. If you are not living in a way that reflects this, take a closer look at the things that are consuming your time and attention that offer no real benefit to your life.

Your life will transform quickly when you remove even a couple of things that you no longer find of value. As you begin seeing yourself and your life as precious beyond measure, it soon becomes obvious when you are spending your time on something that makes you feel off-center or disempowered.

[thrive_custom_box title=”Energy Shift” style=”light” type=”color” color=”#7100e2″ border=”#1e73be”]Before you dive into today’s writing take a moment to feel into your cosmic roots. Notice the energetic tendrils of your being, reaching out, sourced from dynamic intelligence. Feel them nourishing you from the core of the Earth, granting you the means to bring them into reality. Become aware of the surface values that you’ve taken on from your ancestry. Rinse them off as you feel the cells of your skin coming alive with what’s true for you.[/thrive_custom_box]

Doorway 2: Money, Possessions & Values

Our next Doorway on the map of the Goddess Revolution leads to the Second House of personal resources, what you value, and how you spend what you have, whether it is your time, money or attention. Doorway 2 corresponds with Taurus, ruled by the planet Venus, named for the Goddess of Love. This house shows what matters to you, and how much you prioritize those aspects.

Some spend a lot of energy collecting and caring for physical things. Others are more focused on ideas and ideals. This house shows what you value most and what your values (both conscious and unconscious) are. Your sense of value, or self-worth, is also housed here.

This is very different ground than that which we covered in Doorway 1 – The Self. Here, you discover a deeper level of who you are and what makes you tick.

Quotes are a great way to explore your beliefs, thoughts, and impressions. They can expand your perspective and clarify your inklings. Here are some quotes on money, possessions, and values to support you in considering what aspects are ready for an upgrade. You can also use these quotes to do free flow writing and see what arises.

We’re so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about. Joseph Campbell

Don’t despair too much if you see beautiful things destroyed if you see them perish. Because the best things are always growing in secret. Ben Okri

Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least. Goethe

Take a moment to sit with the following questions. You may want to journal on them or have a discussion with a close friend. You can also just sit with the question for a bit and allow your thoughts to arise of their own accord. Sometimes asking a powerful question is enough to create a shift.

  • What anchors you when you’re in crisis: people, places or things?
  • If there were a fire in your home, what would be the first thing you take with you?
  • What are the 3 things that matter most to you?
